Maximum security and increased user-friendliness with new smart access management

Danoffice IT sells professional IT equipment for humanitarian aid agencies worldwide and having such customers, security and the best possible service are crucial when customers worldwide are using the e-commerce solution Danoffice IT Direct.

Increased user-friendliness and same high security

Previously, the maintenance of a high level of security has influenced the user-friendliness of the webshop since Danoffice IT’s e-commerce solution Direct operated through a protection filter where a network administrator manually had to unlock the IP address from which the user was trying to access the solution.This gave a very secure and restrictive access management but it also required resources from both the user who had to know the IP address in question and Danoffice IT that always needed to have somebody available for the job. Furthermore, pressure was put on the firewall because of the increasing number of IP rules.

Hesehus has now solved this issue by implementing a new 2-factor security on a proxy server which makes it possible to increase the user-friendliness as well as maintain the high level of security.

1)      The users can authenticate using Office 365 which is a licence-based business solution in which the organisation sets up the user. When the user uses an Office 365 account to access Direct, the data are automatically validated up against the Direct database.


Alternatively, the users may choose to use their private Microsoft account which makes it very easy for them to gain access to the Direct solution. It has been extremely important for Danoffice IT not to compromise on security which is why Hesehus’s developers have integrated 2-factor login via call or SMS. When they log on from a private account, the system automatically checks whether they are logged on from a new IP address and if this is the case, they are validated through the account via a link that is sent to the mail address in question which the user activates to gain access.

Easy login for all users

The main challenge for the users was that they had to know the IP address, so in addition to reducing the consumption of resources for Danoffice IT, the proxy implementation also increases the user-friendliness very much because it is no longer necessary for the users to know the exact IP address from which they gain access to the e-commerce solution.

The reasons behind the previous challenges were evident when the user was connected to a dynamic IP address or when it was not possible for the users to identify the IP address in question. This could be the case if a user wanted to login from, e.g. an airport or somewhere else where the IP address is not easy to determine. Another example, which is very relevant for Danoffice IT because of its global presence, is with the users who are located in areas without a static network. These users often experienced the uncertainty regarding from which IP address they logged on to Direct as it might change every time and for these users, it is now much easier to use Direct. This is done by means of the proxy and the new access options as they can logon with whatever they already have.

In this way, Danoffice IT now offers even more users the opportunity to benefit from the Direct solution which is now also available from all devices also mobile.

Optimal online performance and new functionalities

In addition to significantly increased user-friendliness and easier working procedures for Danoffice IT, the implementation of the proxy server also results in even better performance on the web solution as the system is no longer pressed by the large number of IP rules and is therefore loading faster.

The proxy server also provides the e-commerce solution with more functionality options since Danoffice IT can now perform user satisfaction surveys among indirect users such as distribution business partners, launch campaigns focused on the attraction of more user, etc. This is now possible without compromising the security since the proxy server makes Danoffice IT capable of authorising access to an interface without opening for the total Direct solution.

To Danoffice IT and its users, the implementation of the proxy server has also:

- Ensured the maintenance of a high level of security through continued 2-factor Authentication

- Made it even easier for the users to logon using Single Sign-On

- Provided easier working procedures for Danoffice IT

- Improved the performance of the solution by faster loading
