Hesehus supports Cykelnerven 2018
This year, Hesehus has decided to support Cykelnerven (the bike nerve) in the battle against sclerosis and sends DKK 76,000 as well as five cool members of Hesehus off with Cykelnerven to the French mountains today.
Cykelnerven – we cycle for a world without sclerosis
Cykelnerven is the Danish sclerosis association's annually recurring charity event and reputedly Denmark's hardest of its kind. Every year, Cykelnerven sends approx. 300 dedicated bike enthusiasts, who have signed up for the staggering event, off to the French mountains. Here they will fight a tough battle against Tour de France's hardest stages – and of course also the huge and meaningful battle for a world without sclerosis.
The Cykelnerven charity event lasts for four days from 13 to 16 June where the riders will be facing the hardest stages in the Pyrenees which the professional riders will conquer in less than a month in the annual Tour de France.
The hard charity event has received the distinguished support from several familiar faces, including the Team Funen’s own ambassador Thomas Helveg, TV2’s weatherman Peter Tanev, the TV2 host on the news Mikael Kamber and their bike expert Dennis Ritter as well as the TV presenter Claus Elming and all of Denmark’s Bubber.

Hesehus supports with DKK 76,000 and five riders
In 2017, when Cykelnerven took up the battle against the French mountains and the disease sclerosis, Hesehus supported with a sponsorship, but this year we raised the bar and offered five seats in the tour to our employees.
Five cool members of Hesehus came forward and in this year’s Cykelnerven tour you can follow the five nerve riders from Hesehus: Anja Saabye, Kristine Rokkjær, Mette Reinholt Mortensen, Kristian Weinkauff Jakobsen and Lars Ibsen.
In addition to the five riders, we have since October 2017 collected as much as DKK 76,000 – but it does not have to end here. You can still help our five riders collecting money for the Danish sclerosis association and research in sclerosis here.
Sclerosis – in short
- In Denmark, approx. 16,000 people live with the diagnosis Multiple Sclerosis – of these approx. 2/3 are women.
- Denmark has one of the highest prevalence of sclerosis in the world.
- Sclerosis destroys parts of the nerve cells. This means that the nerves cannot communicate properly and this shows in various kinds of symptoms.
- Three different types of multiple sclerosis exist. Relapsing-remitting, primary-progressive and secondary-progressive sclerosis. The three types can appear differently in the individual person but are still characterised by some particular patterns in the course of the disease.
- The exact reason why sclerosis exists is still unknown. Many factors are involved and can influence whether or not you develop sclerosis. Genetics as well as the environment are important factors and it is impossible to predict who will be afflicted by the disease.
Mette Reinholt Mortensen
“Cycling has become a family project where we rode Alpe d’Huez and Glandon last year. When the opportunity to set new goals with Cykelnerven arose, I was ready to new bike challenges. That we also collect money for research in sclerosis is an added bonus as I know how important it is to collect money – also for the less widespread diseases such as sclerosis”
Lars Ibsen
“I have always wanted to try to climb the tough mountains. I think it will be exceptionally hard but it will also be a huge challenge to ride down again. I also think that it is a very good purpose which I am very please to be able to support”
Anja Saabye
“I saw the tour as a very good training goal. I also think that the purpose is very good. In my circle of acquaintances, I know more people who unfortunately suffer from the disease and I would very much like to raise money to allow the disease and the research to get more attention”
Kristian Weinkauff Jakobsen
“When I watch Tour de France, it is definitely the large mountain stages that I enjoy watching the most. When I had the opportunity to try my strength against them, I could of course only accept. Furthermore, it is also cool to be able to support a good purpose such as research in sclerosis by collecting money before the tour”
Kristine Rokkjær
“I participate in Cykelnerven because it is a personal motivation for me to be able to climb the toughest mountains. But I also have sclerosis close in my family and have seen how crucial the right medicine is. I have noticed an increased quality of life for relatives due to improved medicine thanks to new research. So it makes good sense for me to participate”
