Wupti Marketplace
With a Danish counterpart to Amazon, Dansk Supermarked takes up the battle against the global giants.
With the launch of its new marketplace Wupti Marketplace, Denmark’s largest retail company Dansk Supermarked now takes up the battle against the foreign webshops in particular the global marketplace Amazon.
Amazon’s entry into countries such as Germany and France, where the global marketplace represents 30% respectively of the total German and French online trading, has convinced Dansk Supermarked to join the Danish webshops.
As Kenneth Nielsen, Executive Vice President of e-commerce & digital in Dansk Supermarked, said to Børsen in April when Dansk Supermarked unveiled its plans:
Executive Vice President of e-commerce & digital in Dansk Supermarked, Kenneth Nielsen
“We go all in with this initiative. If we want to be a significant player in the future, this is a key issue. If we do not wish to repeat the situation from Germany and France, we have to challenge ourselves. We believe that we can collaborate and compete at the same time. I do not think we have a choice because Amazon is coming and the Danish webshops need a counterpart”
On 7 June, the counterpart in the form of Wupti Marketplace was introduced online and is now providing the customers with access to thousands of products from various Danish and foreign webshops.
Developed and implemented on the software platform Bizzkit
Wupti Marketplace is a further development of the webshop wupti.com and is developed and implemented on the software platform Bizzkit which is one of the three most widely used e-commerce platforms among the top 1000 companies in Denmark.
Like other standard e-commerce platforms, Bizzkit is geared precisely for e-commerce but having the advantage that the platform is extra flexible and also contains DAM, PIM and CMS.
Back in 2015, Dansk Supermarked acquired wupti.com and has for the new marketplace decided to continue with Wupti's regular e-commerce partner Hesehus A/S which is also responsible for the online success of Matas.dk.
